Workshop
Construction Detailing

Workshop automates and simplifies the time consuming creation of structural elements for ship hulls.

It is ideal for designers and builders of steel and aluminium vessels, although it will have applications for those working with timber and composites.

Workshop creates flat plate development of hull shapes which have either developable or compound curvature in their surfaces. An approach has been adopted which accurately develops hulls that are mostly developable, but which also include portions with significant compound curvature, such as flared topsides or a deep forefoot in the bow.

Stringer generation allows you to create stringer paths on the hull surface which may be fair curves or contain discontinuities. No limit is placed on the number of stringers.

At each frame position, intersections with stringers are found and the surface normals generated. Stringer cutouts are positioned and intersected with the frame outline forming a continuous cutting path.

Decks and longitudinals can also be generated in a similar way.

All output from Workshop is in the form of 2D parts that can be embellished on CAD systems such as AutoCad or Microstation and then cut using NC cutting machinery.
