SailMaker LE allows you to design and manufacture sails from a set of standard mould shapes supplied by Sails Science.
The Sails Science Mould Library is an extensive library of sail designs, covering the spectrum of sail shapes.
SailMaker LE and the Mould Library provide a unique combination of opportunities to a sail loft:
World Class Sail Design Database
Access to a world class sail design database. Usually this requires franchising to another loft to gain access to designs of this quality.
Immediate Production
Mould Library designs are polished, refined moulds complete with luff round, roach balance etc and markings. They simply need to be redimensioned to form the start of your sail designs, saving time and giving you a quality and performance edge on your competition. Apply your own characteristic panel layout, cloth selection and finishing to complete your designs.
Low Initial Cost
SailMaker LE is included free with SailMaker.
Pay for Design Usage Only
There is a charge, based on sail area and type, for the designs from which you manufacture sails. You only pay for the designs when you save the panels to make a sail.
Continued Database Development
The Mould Library continues to develop under Sails Science. New moulds will be issued at regular intervals.
Maintain Design Freedom
The restricted Mould Library designs are intended to compliment and enhance the full design freedom SailMaker gives the sail designer.
Sails Science Mould Library Designs
Mould Library designs are complete sail designs. They include not only the fundamental depth, position and twist shaping but also appropriate luff round or mast bend, foot round, leech round or roach. Library designs include a range of preinstalled battens. All designs also come complete with appropraite markings including speed stripes, tell tales and reef positions for mainsails.
Sails Science Mould Library Development
The Sails Science Mould Library has been under development for over two decades, providing designs to lofts worldwide. These are highly polished and production proven designs. Designs cover the diverse field of sail design and have been taken to the highest level in Whitbread, America's Cup and all levels of competition.
Sails Science Mould Library Release 1.1 contains 37 mainsail, 31 genoa, 10 asymmetric spinnaker and 31 symmetric spinnaker designs. Each design comes with a brief description of shape and application.
The Mould Library comprehensively covers keel boat sail design but does not extend to dinghy sails.
Sails Science Design Consultancy
For important projects, or particular classes, where you feel a Mould Library design needs to be modified, or could be improved, for the sail you wish to design, Sails Science will provide customised designs at no cost. There will be a small charge to cover postage and packaging.
On providing the specifications for a design a modified mould can be available in a matter of days.
This provides the ability to develop your designs and ensures the Mould Library covers any sail you wish to design and manufacture.
SailMaker LE, Sails Science Mould Library Design Integrity
SailMaker LE differs from SailMaker in that you cannot access or change, the sail's depth, position of depth or twist.
The internal shaping of the designs is fixed and hidden to preserve Sail Science's intellectual ownership of the mould shapes and preserve the value of these designs for SailMaker LE users.
The Mould Library has enough designs to cover the sail design spectrum, that access to internal shaping is not necessary. Take, for example, genoa design, there is a range of genoas from super light to heavy, suitable for dacron or exotic cloths, that cover a range of depths, that you will not need to change mould depth, instead select a different mould.
